Our Westwood is a service of Dave Atkins Media, Inc. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of personal information Dave Atkins Media, Inc. may collect when you use our service ("Service"), which is further described in the Terms of Service ("TOS"), as well as some of the steps we take to secure it. You should also review our Community Guidelines which describe our expectations around the manner in which you participate in posting content to this site.

What This Policy Covers

This Policy covers how we treat personal information that we collect or receive from you when you use our Service. "Personal Information" is information about you that is personally identifiable like your social security number, name, address, email address, or phone number.

This Policy does not apply to the practices of companies and/or other entities that Dave Atkins Media, Inc. does not own or control, to people that are not managed or employed by Dave Atkins Media, Inc., and/or to operators of sites to which you may link from a Dave Atkins Media, Inc. web site.

Data and Information Collection and Use

General

Our Westwood collects information from and about you when you create a user login.

Users who visit Our Westwood and do not register do not need to provide any Personal Information. Dave Atkins Media, Inc. does, however, collect limited, non-personally identifying information from non-registered users that browsers make available whenever a user visits a website. This information includes your internet protocol address, browser type, browser language, cookies, and use patterns.

When you create a user login, we ask for you to chose a user name and password and provide a valid email address. We also request you provide your “real name.” Your password will be maintained on our system in an encrypted form and you will be able to create a unique username that will identify you during login and when you are using the Service. Please note that Dave Atkins Media, Inc. owns your username, grants you a license to use it while you are a Member, and reserves all rights to your username once you either cease to be a Member or following an extended period of inactivity, including but not limited to the right to revoke, reuse, resell or license your username.

Once you register with sign into a Dave Atkins Media, Inc. site, you are not anonymous to us.

Dave Atkins Media, Inc. uses the information we collect for the following purposes: to customize the advertising and content you see, fulfill requests for products and service, improve our Service, contact you, conduct research, and provide anonymous reporting for internal and external clients.

Posting on Our Westwood

Use care when posting Personal Information or your personal content on our Service, particularly sensitive information such as social security numbers, financial information, home addresses or phone numbers.

You should be aware that, when you post information on a web site, the information that you post - including but not limited to the content of the post, header information, username and any published email addresses - may be read, copied, used and re-distributed by people you do not know.

The contents of the postings that you submit to the Service are stored and maintained on our servers in order to publish the postings and provide the Service. In order to protect our Members from email harvesting software and bots, we attempt to "mask" email addresses so that they are typically human readable but not machine readable. In addition, we collect and maintain information about your account activity, such as the contents of your posts, the links that you click on, your email activity, and search inquiries.

Children

We do not knowingly collect or solicit Personal Information from children under the age of 13 or knowingly allow children under the age of 13 to register for a user login on Our Westwood. If you are under 13, do not register or attempt to register or send any information about yourself to us. No one under the age of 13 may provide any Personal Information to, on or through Dave Atkins Media, Inc. Sites, Services and Software.

If we learn that we have collected or been sent Personal Information from a child under the age of 13, we will delete that Personal Information as soon as reasonably practical. If you believe that we might have collected or been sent Personal Information from a child under the age of 13, please contact Dave Atkins through the Email the Editor form.

We recommend that minors 13 years of age or older ask their parents for permission before sending any Personal Information about themselves to, on or through Dave Atkins Media, Inc. Sites, Services and Software.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Dave Atkins Media, Inc. does not rent, sell, share, or otherwise disclose Personal Information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide products or services you've requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances:

  • We may provide information to trusted partners who work on our behalf and who have entered into confidentiality agreements with us.
  • Dave Atkins Media, Inc. responds to valid subpoenas, court orders, and other legal proceedings. We also may disclose information if we deem it necessary to exercise our legal rights or to defend ourselves against legal claims.
  • We will share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of any of our TOS, or as otherwise required by law.
  • We may transfer information about you if we are acquired or merged with another company.

Dave Atkins Media, Inc. takes appropriate physical and electronic measures to protect against unauthorized access to, alteration of, and disclosure of Personal Information.

Access to Personal Information is limited to employees who need to know that information in order to provide our Service. All of our employees enter into confidentiality agreements with Dave Atkins Media, Inc.

Cookies

Information Automatically Collected and Stored by this Site. 

This website employs the use of "Persistent Cookies." The purpose of these Persistent Cookies is to collect and aggregate data regarding the site’s visitor activity in order for us to continuously evaluate and update our website services. You may elect to disable the Persistent Cookies. Please be advised that disabling the Persistent Cookies may affect your ability to view or interact with this website. The site also uses temporary "session cookies" to allow visitors to interact with the site and to use online applications. "Session cookies" do not allow us to personally identify a visitor. These cookies are stored only in memory and are deleted when the user's browser is shut down.

This site does collect and store your "Internet Protocol ("IP") address," (which does not identify you as an individual) indefinitely, as well as information about the date and time of your visit, whether a file you have requested exists, and how many "bytes" of information were transmitted to you over the Web from this site. We use your IP address to assess the frequency of visits to this site and the popularity of its various pages and functions. We will not attempt to match any personally identifiable information that you provide to us with your IP address, unless there are reasonable grounds to believe that doing so would provide information that is relevant and material to a criminal investigation.

Google Analytics

In addition, we use a tool called “Google Analytics” to collect information about use of this site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to this site.  We use the information we get from Google Analytics only to improve this site.  Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy.  The Google Analytics Terms of Use are available online at http://www.google.com/analytics/tos.html. Your Ability to Edit and Delete Account Information

You may edit your Member account and related personal information at any time by logging in to the website and accessing the link for “My Account”.

You may delete your member account by emailing the Editor.

Changes to this Policy

Dave Atkins Media, Inc. may update and change this Policy from time to time.

All updates and changes will be posted on this web page.

We will notify you directly if we make significant changes to this Policy.
