Wegmans in 2012

by Dave Atkins

It appears those folks who were so excited about Wegmans coming to Massachusetts and Westwood will have to wait--or go to Northborough. According to this article, Wegmans is still planning to occupy Westwood Station, but not until 2012. Meanwhile, the first store is planned for Northborough's Loop in 2011.

The good news is when

The good news is when Wegmans opens at WS , parking and traffic will not be an issue.

Westwood Station or better yet Westwood BOX stores

Keep a very close eye on Westwood Station. If CC&F is doing anything what I hear it's just going to be the box stores and not the so called village with the small stores. You watch the town is going to rush it through if they can get the funding for the box stores. So what we will end up with is a bunch of box stores no small high end stores at all.

Someone has to ask the Selectman about the 2.5 million we are supposed to be guaranteed from CC&F for fiscal 2011.
You watch they will not want to bring that subject up I bet. I like to ask Mr Rafsky about all his safe guards for the town, it doesn't look like the town is protected in any way shape or form.

actually, someone did...

According to the Daily News Transcript coverage of the last Board of Selectmen's meeting,

Dukeman added that local receipts will be another revenue issue to watch - and that the town is "not scheduled to receive any payment" in fiscal 2011 from Westwood Station. "In the current budget, we're using $615,000 (from Westwood Station), so that's a big drop for us right away as we start off the budget," Dukeman said.

The town is due to receive $500,000 from Cabot, Cabot & Forbes if and when the developer finds construction financing for its stalled project, but Shapiro said, "it's fairly cut and dried - I don't think we can build anything into the budget from Westwood Station."

So, yes, times are difficult. But we have been hearing this at every other Selectman's meeting, every Finance Committee meeting, etc. for the past year. It's true. The coming financial challenges won't be solved by a half-million dollars here and a couple million there. And I don't think it's going to be possible to conjure up a bunch of box stores out of nowhere anyway.
