Ped/Bike Safety Commission
I'm on the agenda for the Board of Selectman meeting next Tuesday, December 16. The meeting starts at 7:30 and this proposal is scheduled for 7:45pm. The document, pretty much what is here on the website, has been distributed to the Selectmen and I will be there to answer questions. Anyone who would like to attend is welcome to do so. My hope is that by getting the commission formed here before the holiday, we will have time to kick things off in early 2009 and then re-authorize/make adjustments at the start of the next fiscal year cycle in the summer.

How Did The Presentation Go?
Dave,
Is it possible to update the blog on how your presentation went last night? How was the turnout and was there any feedback from the Board?
Thanks,
Joanie
Selectmen Supportive of Ped/Bike
The Board of Selectmen was very supportive of the proposal I made but asked me to meet with Town Administrator Mike Jaillet and consider the members of two other traffic-oriented committees in town prior to the next BOS meeting. I am confident we will get the comission formed early in January and find representatives. Wendy Muellers showed up to support our efforts and I would say everyone I have spoken with wants to see this moving forward.
With respect to geographical diversity/representation, Selectwoman Nancy Hyde suggested we set up the resident members based on the 5 Elementary School Districts as a great way to ensure input and also faciliate school efforts in this area--such as extending programs like Safe Routes to Schools from Downey and Hanlon to the other schools.
