Dedham River Trail Coming

by Dave Atkins

The neighboring town of Dedham has been awarded a $35K grant to build a public landing that will provide access to the Charles River for a scenic "river trail." The Dedham Transcript article includes a link to a google map illustrating a possible 3-hour canoe or kayak excursion. The public landing will be located on Bullard Street, next to Dedham Community House--approximately 2 miles from Westwood, just above the Ames Street bridge.

Adult Sports Leagues

by Dave Atkins

A visitor sent me a suggestion to find out how to join any local softball, basketball, etc. leagues. I know a few people who play, but I don't know who organizes these things. Any suggestions?

Share the Trail?

by Dave Atkins

Today, I learned of an interesting business coming to town: Wild Star Stables plans to build a 22-stall horse barn at 401 Sandy Valley Road. From their website, it sounds as though they intend to use the Lowell Woods as an area to ride horses. I know very little about this, but have a hard time imagining how horses would navigate the trails in Lowell woods. I don't want to imagine how such a use would require me to carry a shovel with me the next time my family goes for a walk in the woods...
