Westwood Community Chest taking requests for aid
The turbulent economy has posed difficult challenges for many families, including unemployment, deterioration of retirement savings, and reductions in health coverage and other support services. Westwood Community Chest (WCC) is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to helping Westwood residents needing temporary financial assistance by paying for basic needs such as utility payments, shelter, and medical expenses.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, the Walpole/Westwood League of Women Voters will sponsor an informational forum on the proposed new library project for the town of Westwood at the First Parish Church in Westwood at 2 pm. Speakers include Library Director Tom Viti, Library Trustee Dan Lehan, and John Sayre-Scibona from the project manager firm, Design Technique, and a representative from the Westwood Board of Selectmen.

Suspicious Activity 2:54 a.m.. – An officer on routine patrol noticed an individual walking down the street who looked unsteady on his feet. The officer contacted the man and found that his speech was slurred and he seemed confused. The officer determined the man to be extremely drunk, and given the cold of the night, placed the man into protective custody.

The Supreme Judicial Court rejected Tuesday the town of Canton’s bid to appeal an environmental permit for a 4.5 million-square-foot development in neighboring Westwood, ending the town’s legal bid to force the project developer to pay for infrastructure improvements.

Standing in a light rain outside the Hanlon Elementary School Tuesday afternoon, Scott Whetstone held a handmade sign up to the traffic that drove past through a slushy street. The sign reads “Scott” with a brown-colored section beneath.
